The Department offers a wide range of technical services not only for teaching and research within the college, but also to the community at large including the local chemistry industry. Some of these services are used extensively by the pharmaceutical/fine chemical industry in the Munster region.
 

     Analytical Services:

•  A modern microanalytical laboratory handles requests for , C, H, and N analysis, Halogen and Sulphur  analysis.

• The Department operates a Mass Spectrometry Centre with facilities which include High Resolution MS, LC-MS, GC-MS and various other techniques.

• Consultancy, contract research and method development services are also available in the following areas: voltammetric techniques including chemically modified electrodes; sensor technology, gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, ion chromatography and mass spectrometry.

     Spectroscopic Services:
 

• High and low field multinuclear solution phase and solid state NMR spectroscopy.
• High resolution mass spectrometry and GC-MS
• Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), ultraviolet/visible, fluorescence, and phosphorescence spectrophotometry.

     Diffraction Services:

• Using state-of-the-art instrumentation, powder samples can be subject to X-ray Diffraction Analysis for phase identification.

     Glassblowing Services:
 

• A skilled glassblower provides a construction and repair service for scientific glassware.

     Electronic and Mechanical Workshops:
 

• Construction of new research equipment.
• Maintenance and repair of existing Departmental equipment.
